What the numbers say
The median company's profit is up 22% on 21% more sales.
How broad it is 80% of companies grew their profit & 54% widened their operating margin (what is left from each ₹100 of sales after running costs). Operating profit is up 24%, ahead of sales, so on average companies are keeping more of each rupee they sell.
Where it is coming from The strongest growth is in Chemicals (profit up 43%, 13 companies) & Capital Goods (profit up 42%, 38 companies); the slowest in Realty (profit flat, 8 companies) & Information Technology (profit up 7%, 21 companies). By size, profit at the largest companies (₹20,000 crore or more) is up 25%, against 22% at the smaller ones (₹1,000 to 5,000 crore), so size makes little difference this time.
A running count: most results are due by 14 November, so the numbers can still move.
