The Big Picture
- The biggest corporate story: Hyundai Motor Group committed $15.5 billion to India over 2026 to 2032. At Tuesday's rupee rate that is roughly Rs. 1.48 lakh crore, about twice what Hyundai Motor India earned in revenue in all of FY26. The catch is that the money is spread across the group (Hyundai, Kia & component affiliates) & no split has been disclosed.
- Results season is broadening: Transformers & Rectifiers more than doubled its quarterly profit, Tata Elxsi grew revenue 15% with better margins, & ICICI Life grew its new-business value 20%. Today's results include BHEL, Canara Bank, HDB Financial, ICICI Lombard, CEAT, Elecon, Tata Technologies & Groww.
- Tuesday's session: the Nifty rose 1.60% to 22,721.95 & the Sensex 1.54% to 73,033.78, the biggest rally in four months, led by IT stocks after HCLTech's results & by the Finance Minister's remark that the government would hear markets out on capital-gains tax & securities transaction tax before Budget 2027 (no proposal exists yet). Foreign investors still sold a net Rs. 1,305 crore while domestic institutions bought Rs. 2,439 crore.
- This morning: GIFT Nifty, the Singapore-hours futures contract that signals the open, was around 22,766, down about 69 points. Brent rose back towards $107 after Saudi Arabia's energy ministry said an Aramco administrative building in Dhahran was hit, causing a limited fire with no casualties. Asian markets bounced after a Fed governor said inflation expectations are well anchored.
- Tonight: US consumer inflation for September arrives at 6:00 PM IST, expected around 3.6% to 3.7% versus 3.4% in August. A hotter number would add to the pressure on US yields, which already sit above 5.2%.
